Another Episode in the Autolinks Saga

Was playing around with Google Toolbar a little today, and noticed that Barnes and Noble seems to have turned all their ISBNs into links leading to their own product descriptions.

This wasn't the case a week ago when the Google Toolbar was rolled out. As I mentioned a few days ago those ISBNs used to be static text which the Google toolbar would turn into links to Amazon's product descriptions. Since the toolbar won't alter existing links, this was an easy way for Barnes and Noble to prevent users of the Google Toolbar from being sent to Amazon's site.

I have to commend B&N on a lightning-fast response to this issue. Not sure if Google was involved in this solution or not, but I'm sure other booksellers are working on doing the same. Or they could use this bit of code provided by Search Guild.

Nick at ThreadWatch has links to the PHP, Perl, and ASP solutions.
