AskJeeves To Be Acquired By InterActiveCorp

Now this is big news. As reported in tomorrows New York Times (free reg required), Barry Diller's IAC/InterActiveCorp is going to be acquiring AskJeeves for about $1.9 billion.

AskJeeves is a great company with great technology, but they've always trailed a distant fourth behind the Google/Yahoo/MSN triopoly. IAC/InterActiveCorp, a $15.58 billion dollar company, could give AskJeeves a bit of the financial muscle it needs to compete on a more equal footing with the big three. (Notice I say more equal, not equal, since IAC/InterActiveCorp is still pretty tiny when compared with Google, Yahoo, or MSN.)

Thanks to SiliconBeat for catching this story early.
