Google and the Drive to Innovate

The best part of Google Press Day came at the end, during the Q&A with the top execs about how Google planned to deal with the Microsoft threat. Their stated focus was on solving problems for their users, not on obsessing about their competition.

To keep your drive to innovate outpacing your paranoia, ask youself the following questions:

  • What are customers doing with the product or service offered by you and your competitors that frustrates them?
  • How can you solve that problem?
  • What can you do to look forward to where your business and overall industry is heading, instead of sideways at what your competitors are doing?
  • In an ideal world, where should your industry be in 10 years, and what can you do to get there sooner?
  • How can you improve the products or services your customers are using so that they'll want to use them more?

Food for thought, inspired by Larry and Sergey.
