Welcome to my blog. Here's a list of my best posts, as well as a complete archive of everything I've ever blogged about. « Viral Marketing for Beginners | Main | Google Scholar = Recency + Relevancy » April 14, 2006Google Calendar Gets Some Heavy Blog Lovin'So Google Calendar was released yesterday (see the press release and blog post). And it's pretty good. But what's really interesting is the massive exposure it's gotten in the blogoshperic blogoverse of blogdom. It's different kind of viral marketing from what I wrote about recently. It's more than just a viral idea - Google itself is a virus people want to spread. Everything Google does is immediately broadcast across thousands of sites. Darcy Norman calls it a web-based Newton Calendar knockoff (which is a good thing). Devin Reams is creative enough to format his review in the form of a play. Tiny Screenfuls calls for some improved interfunctionality between Google Calendar and Outlook, since, as Dan Kligerman notes, Outlook doesn't support an open calendar standard. Grant McCracken has a really good overview of the design shortcomings of Google Calendar. Silver Mac has some sweet Google Calendar shortcuts. Paul Brown has a good wishlist of what's missing. It's enough to make a guy want to give up newsblogging. Anything you could say about a this product has already been said better by about 50,000 other bloggers. Has there ever been a free promotional machine like this? I've heard that Google prides itself on never having bought advertising. When they can release a product and immediately have it announced on thousands of web sites, it's not surprising to see why. |
