Welcome to my blog. Here's a list of my best posts, as well as a complete archive of everything I've ever blogged about. « Creative New Uses For AdSense Clickfraud | Main | The Cult of Google Maps » July 17, 2005Google Paranoia: The New BlackDistrust of Google has been pretty rampant on SEO blogs for some time now. It's taken a bit for the mainstream press to catch on, but it's happening. Check out the story on the all knowing eye of Google that came out in the AP today: Google Growth Yields Privacy Fear Makes me think about Aaron Wall reporting today about seeing SEO-based AdSense ads on a lyrics site. What's the chances Google's showing him personalized ads based on some tracking data? Pure speculation, of course, but who knows? In other Google news: It looks like you really can make a press release about anything. I won't mention the site by name, since I don't want my (good natured) jibes to show up when people are looking for his site. But as a search geek, I find the press release equal parts confusing and hilarious. What does this even mean? On the scale of one to 10 for web page relevance, [site] has been given the highest number so far given to an Atlanta residential real estate agent... I mean, it's a PageRank 4 page! And what keywords are he targeting? Still, he got the press release out, so even if it doesn't entirely make sense, he's definitely moving in the right direction, so kudos to him. And finally, John Doerr and Ram Shriram (the same guys who got Google off the ground) have just joined the board of directors of a new(ish) company out of Stanford U called Zazzle. Basically, Zazzle is: ...a 2-year-old online marketplace where people can buy and sell artwork in the form of customized gifts, T-shirts, stamps, posters and prints. But who cares about all that. It's being bankrolled by Doerr and Shriram. It came out of Stanford University. It has a goofy, nonsensical name. It can't lose! Get those wallets open! (as soon as it goes public, I mean.) |
