Make Money Blogging by Building a Media Empire

Think you can make money blogging?

Well, you probably can't, unless you count the smattering of AdSense profits here and there that most of us depend on to pay for our morning latte, if we're lucky.

I'm pretty sure this is the case for most bloggers. We make a few bucks now and then, but it's really a labor of love and a promotional tool, rather than a way to get rich (or even pay the rent).

Unless you're Nick Denton or Jason Calacanis, that is.

Fred Wilson has a great post on burgeoning media empires that are Gawker Media and Weblogs Inc.

True, 'empire' may be a bit strong a term, but at the rate their properties are growing, they stand a good change of being bought up by an AOL or a News Corp for a price that would make the $410 million that The New York Times paid for About.com look like a steal.
