Not Google Answers, Google Q&A

Google announced the release of Google Q&A on their blog today. It's a service that does what AskJeeves was originally supposed to do (and still does, with varying degrees of sucess). Namely, you type a question into the Google search bar and it gives you back an answer.

Answer are pulled from such open web content sources as Wikipedia, Who2.com, as well as from smaller sites, such as history-asia.com, that just happen to contain the searched-for info.

And, from the looks of it, they're able to answer a fairly broad range of questions, from the prosaic to the obscure:

who is the british prime minister

what is a folksonomy

author of such a long journey

Gary Price has more, including the burgeoning industry of online "fact providers. Inside Google lets us know why MSN's Encarta is probably still better.
