Search Potpourri

Been a bit of a slow day in the search world, but a few things happened:

Google's opening up a Research and Development center in China (MSN's suing them, in related news).

Also related, from Fortune, Yahoo’s Terry Semel and eBay’s Meg Whitman say that China could represent the largest part of their business in 10 years.

You can now use Google Alerts to track posts to Google Groups. I already use them to track everything else, so this new tool might provide some blog fodder.

Of course, there's Google Moon.

And for your summer reading, the entire Google AdWords FAQ on one printable page, so you can take it to the beach.

Yahoo profits are way up, but revenues not so hot. Stock takes a big hit in after hours trading. Apparently most of those profits were due to Yahoo selling off its remaining stake in Google.

Barry Diller and IAC have completed their purchase of Ask Jeeves.

Local Search data provider Giant infoUSA had a good quarter.

Search engine market shares in June 2005: Google - 36.9%, Yahoo! - 30.4%, MSN - 15.7%

Sure, throwing together news links amounts to blogging at its least challenging, but hey, we all have slow days once in a while.
