Simplicity and the Google Homepage API

The Google Blog just announced the release of the Google Homepage API, allowing developers to create modules for Google's personalized homepage.

Not a bad feature, though a bit ironic coming on the heels of todays Fast Company article about how the simplicity of the homepage is Google's secret weapon. Maybe their real secret weapon is their knack for keeping their name in the news through a steady stream of product releases like this on.

Still, it's fun, it will probably lead to some cool creations, and I don't imagine most people have any idea Google personal homepage even exists, so they're probably not really in danger of jeapodizing their reputation for a clean user interface with this one.

Phil Lessen's built a few of them already, including an Amazon search, and a Google page count feature.
