Time to Start Optimizing Your Pages for MSN

It's easy to underestimate Microsoft when their search share is slipping (down from 16% to 13.5% of all Internet searches over the past year, according to Kelsey Group) and Google is so dominant, but MS always been able to eventually use their OS monoloply to slaughter all comers.

Google's complaints about Microsoft making MSN the default search engine in their forthcoming IE7 have been roundly ridiculed on the 'net. Perhaps justifiably, considering Google is quite happy being the default search engine for the Firefox brower.

Whatever. Save the politics for the suits. It's time to prepare for the very real possibilty that Microsoft will send Google the way of Netscape. Ranking in MSN is dead easy right now, and the headstart could prove critical when we're looking at a very different searchscape a year or two from now. The way I see it, the time to start optimizing for MSN is now.
