Web Accelerator Offline

After a less than enthusiastic reception from the WebMaster community, it looks like Google may have taken their Web Accelerator down.

http://webaccelerator.google.com/ now takes you to the download page for the Google Toolbar.

Cut and pasting the URL still gets you to the Web Accelerator page last I checked, but all the links are broken, and refreshing the page redirects you to the toolbar download page.

I guess we'll wait and see if it stays offline. Google Web Accelerator was just a bad idea, especially for a company who's battling burgeoning privacy issues. Why was it so bad? Fantomaster counts the ways.

Update: Looks like it's back up now. We'll see what hapens.
