Yahoo Video Search Comes Out of Beta

Yahoo Video Search is apparently ready for primetime. The Beta tag was removed May 4th.

Whenever I see something like this, I always ask myself: Why should I care? Can this technology be used to make me or my clients money?

One obvious way it could create revenue for your site is if it became a new source of traffic. So just how does one go about optimizing video for Yahoo Video Search?

I aim to find out.

After work today, I had a friend use a digital camera to take a little video of me discussing some link-building basics. It's quick, since we only had two minutes of video storage on the camera, and the content's not going to blow anybody away, but it's a start.

Now we wait and see if, when, and where this file ranks in Yahoo Video Search (YVS) for the phrase "search engine optimization".

And so, I give you the maiden voyage of the Bobnar Blog video-cast:

Search Engine Optimization

Enjoy.

Update: Having some browser/media player compatibility issues with the video. Should be back online soon.

Update II: Back online. Formating the video as a .mov file seemed to work across the greatest number of browsers, so I hope your browser supports Quicktime.

Turns out there's a bit more to video-casting than just throwing a video file up on the web, but that's fine. This site is a great place to experiment with new ideas, and I'm planning to continue refining and improving the process.

Who knows, what started as a spur-of-the-moment experiment could turn into something pretty cool.

Update III:Good god, it looks like Yahoo has indexed just about every post but this one. I guess it didn't help that during the few hours the video was offline Yahoo just happened to spider this site.

Oh well, I think I was going about it the wrong way, anyway. Seems that Media RSS Syndication is the thing to do.
